Description
The TriQuint TGS4302 is a GaAs singlepole, double-throw (SPDT) PIN monolithic switch designed to operate over the Ka-Band frequency range. This switch maintains a low insertion loss with high power handling of 33dBm or greater input P1dB at VC = 7.5V. These advantages, along with the small size of the chip, make the TGS4302 ideal for use in communication and transmit/receive applications.

These ratings represent the maximum operable values for this device. VC and IC are both per bias pad. Operation above 30dBm requires control voltages above +5V. When operated at this bias condition with a base plate temperature of 70 C, the median life is TBD hours. Junction operating temperature will directly affect the device mean time to failure (MTTF). For maximum life it is recommended that junction temperatures be maintained at the lowest possible levels

Operation at RF power levels >30 dBm requires increasing the positive voltage level to put a larger reverse bias on the diodes while the negative voltage level remains at -5 V with a current of approximately 20mA. Bond pads IA and IB bypass the on-chip series resistors to allow adjustment of the current to the diodes in their forward biased state.

TGS4302 Assembly Process Notes
Reflow process assembly notes: * * * * * Use AuSn (80/20) solder with limited exposure to temperatures at or above 300C. (30 seconds maximum) An alloy station or conveyor furnace with reducing atmosphere should be used. No fluxes should be utilized. Coefficient of thermal expansion matching is critical for long-term reliability. Devices must be stored in a dry nitrogen atmosphere.
Component placement and adhesive attachment assembly notes: * * * * * * * Vacuum pencils and/or vacuum collets are the preferred method of pick up. Air bridges must be avoided during placement. The force impact is critical during auto placement. Organic attachment can be used in low-power applications. Curing should be done in a convection oven; proper exhaust is a safety concern. Microwave or radiant curing should not be used because of differential heating. Coefficient of thermal expansion matching is critical.
Interconnect process assembly notes: * * * * Thermosonic ball bonding is the preferred interconnect technique. Force, time, and ultrasonics are critical parameters. Aluminum wire should not be used. Maximum stage temperature is 200C.
